The Central Idea

Post-career life doesn't change what matters to you. It changes whether your daily habits still support the life you want to live.

Walking Again Was Never Really the Goal

After church one Sunday, I found myself talking with a couple about knee replacement surgery.

What stayed with me wasn't the surgery.

It was one sentence. "We used to be active...and then we weren't."

Retirement didn't take away their desire to live an active life.

It quietly took away the structure that had been supporting it.

That conversation reminded me that the greatest threat to our lifestyle isn't always a major event.

Sometimes it's the slow disappearance of the habits that once kept us moving.

The Lifestyle Stress Test is a free self-assessment designed to help you identify areas of your life that may be quietly creating unnecessary stress and limiting your ability to enjoy the lifestyle you want. In just a few minutes, you’ll gain insight into how your daily habits, routines, and priorities may be affecting your overall well-being.

This Week's Reflection

Look at your calendar for the next seven days. Does it include activities that help preserve the life you want to be living ten years from now?

If not, schedule one today.

Why Does this Matter?

Lifestyle doesn't happen by accident. The experiences you hope to enjoy in retirement are shaped by the choices and routines you build today.

The Time-Optimized Newsletter Helping move time from finite to infinite (issue 227) The Central Idea Identity theft is a violation you recover from; identity loss is a drift you must design your way out of. Identity Theft Versus Identity Lost Do you think your biggest retirement risk is financial? It’s not. It’s identity. When work disappears, structure, purpose, and connection often go with it. That’s where problems begin. Identity theft is obvious. Identity loss is subtle—and far more...

The Time-Optimized Newsletter Helping move time from finite to infinite (issue 226) The Central Idea Longevity isn’t what creates fear in retirement…unplanned time is. Why Longevity Feels Riskier Than It Really Is. There continues to be the idea that the biggest risk in retirement is running out of money. It might not be. A 25-year retirement without a plan for your time can feel longer than a 40-year career. That's why nearly half of retirees fear outliving their savings—even when the math...

The Time-Optimized Newsletter Helping move time from finite to infinite (issue 225) The Central Idea The purchases we make often reveal the identities we are trying to preserve. Sometimes our spending decisions reveal more about who we are than what we need. The Purchases We Make to Stay Ourselves My neighbor recently traded a Lexus for a pickup truck. His financial advisor probably wasn't thrilled. But the decision had very little to do with transportation and a lot to do with identity. The...
